Your day starts with a visit to the village of Batubulan, famous for both its stone carving and as a centre for the exciting Barong dance. Youll enjoy a performance of this typically Balinese dance before moving on to Mas. This village is well known for its beautiful wood carving, and you will have a demonstration of carving. The next stop is Goa Gajah, or Elephant Cave. The intricately carved entrance to the cave depicts entwined leaves, animals and human forms. You then venture further inland through terraced paddy fields into the mountains to Kintamani. Stop for lunch (not included) and enjoy the spectacular views across to Mount Batur, a still active volcano, and Lake Batur. From here, return to the hotel via a holy spring and the city of Ubud, the artistic heart of the island. In ubud, you visit one of the many art galleries and watch an artist at work. The final stop of the day is at the village of Celuk, where you will observe skilled artists working in gold and silver. Or... Bedugul & singaraja Travel to the north coast of Bali on this full day excursion. Your journey takes you through the mountains, stopping at Pacung to enjoy the view, and the Candi Kuning fruit and flower market. Youll pay a visit to the attractive mountain resort of Bedugul, and Lake Beratan, which fills an ancient crater. Continuing north, you will enjoy a walk through the jungle to the Gitgit Waterfall before heading to the black sand Lovina Beach and the town of singaraja. Youll return to the hotel along a different route, through coffee plantations and terraced rice fields. You can then choose from our Mengwi Temple, Monkey Forest & Tanah Lot excursion, or our Evening Kechak & Fire Dance excursion, as detailed: Mengwi Temple, Monkey Forest & Tanah Lot This is a superb afternoon/evening excursion, starting with a visit to a Balinese pavilion to sample traditional Indonesian fried tapioca and sweet potato. You then visit the Mengwi Temple, which dates back to the 17th century. Surrounded by a moat and with entrance through exquisitely carved wooden gates, it is said to be one of the most beautiful temples on Bali. The journey continues to the Monkey Forest, where more than 200 long-tailed Balinese Macaques reside in towering trees. The last stop of the day is Tanah Lot, where you will watch the sun set. This elegant Hindu temple is located on the west coast of Bali. It has a dramatic ocean-front location, sat on a rock formation and only accessible at low tide. During high tide, the temple looks as if it is built atop a boat made of rock. Or... evening Kechak & Fire dance The Kechak dance originated in the 1930s, and has become entwined with Balinese culture and entertainment. It is usually performed at night around a raging bonfire, which adds to the atmosphere created by a large group of men dancing in unison. The dance tells the story of Prince Rama and his dramatic rescue of Princess Sita, who has been kidnapped. This is a spectacular way to spend an evening. You will also see performances of the Sanghyang (trance) dance and the Fire dance. DAY 9 Transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK. DAY 10 Arrival in the UK.
