And, what's more, this fantastic journey of discovery includes many excursions. YOUR ITINERARY DAY 1 - Depart on your scheduled flight to Cape Town. DAY 2 - Arrival in Cape Town. There will be a short orientation tour of the city prior to transferring to your hotel for a three night stay. Afternoon at leisure. Cape Town was founded in 1652 as a victualling station for ships of the Dutch East India Company. Today, it is one of the world's most beautiful cities. It enjoys an incomparable setting within easy reach of vine-covered valleys, plunging cliffs, spectacular mountains and golden sandy beaches. Framed by the sparkling Atlantic Ocean and the majestic backdrop of Table Mountain, one of the world's best known landmarks, Cape Town is South Africa's oldest city and also its most cosmopolitan. Towering some 3,500ft above the city, the distinctive silhouette of Table Mountain dominates the bay and the views from the top, weather permitting, are absolutely stunning. DAY 3 - Today we have included a full day Cape Peninsula tour. The first stop will be Hout Bay; a lively town with a busy harbour. We continue to Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, home to an amazing collection of thousands of plants from all over the country, and stop to admire the beautiful displays of South African flowers. Next our journey takes us to the rugged Cape Point where the dramatic granite cliffs plunge 850ft to the sea below, then it's on to the famous Cape of Good Hope, the most south-westerly of Africa. You will also visit Simon's Town on the way back to Cape Town. DAY 4 - Day at leisure to relax or why not join one of the following optional excursions: Cape Town By Day - This half day tour takes you to see the Malay Quarter, the city centre, Company Gardens and Castle of Good Hope, before continuing to the Milnerton lighthouse, an ideal place from which to photograph Table Mountain, and visit the Diamond Works. You may also take a cable car ride to the top of Table Mountain for breathtaking views of the Cape, subject to weather conditions. Helicopter Flight - Enjoy a spectacular flight by helicopter over Cape Town. Walk To Freedom - Any understanding of the present day conditions in South Africa is greatly enhanced by looking at past injustice and development initiatives underway at present. This half day tour includes a visit to one of Cape Town's townships, where you will be able to talk to the locals, a visit to Bo-Kaap, home to the Muslim community, and District Six, an area where Capetonian families were once forcibly removed. DAY 5 - Today you leave Cape Town for your scenic drive along the magical Garden Route. Stretching eastwards to Port Elizabeth, this is one of the world's most beautiful coastlines. It encompasses soaring mountains, vine-covered valleys, plunging cliffs, long sandy beaches, rivers, forests and a coastal terrace adorned with magnificent trees and flowering plants. En route you will stop to explore the charming town of Swellendam. During the whale watching season, September to November, you will also visit Hermanus. We continue to Knysna for a
