Zanzibar Beach

Before returning home why not extend your holiday with a four night stay on the beautiful and relatively undiscovered island of Zanzibar, located just off the coast of Tanzania. You will have time to relax by the Indian Ocean as well as join a selection of optional excursions. YOUR ITINERARY DAY 1 - This will be Day 9 of your main itinerary. Transfer to Seronera airstrip for your flight to Zanzibar via Arusha. On arrival transfer to your hotel for a four night stay. DAYS 2 TO 4 - At leisure on Zanzibar. For centuries Zanzibar has attracted seafarers and adventurers and is the meeting point of Africa and Arabia. Indeed, Zanzibar belonged to Oman during the 19th century. Here you will discover dazzling white, palm-fringed beaches and the azure waters of the Indian Ocean. During your stay you can visit historic Stone Town. The past comes alive in the maze of twisting streets where you will discover noble Arab houses and fascinating shops and stalls. You can also visit Jozani Forest to see the rare red colobus monkeys, and Prison Island, home of giant tortoises. DAY 5 - Afternoon transfer to Zanzibar Airport for your flight to Dar es Salaam. Optional dinner prior to returning to Dar es Salaam Airport for your return flight to the UK. DAY 6 - Arrival in the UK. YOUR HOTELS You will stay at the Bluebay Beach Resort. All rooms have private facilities including satellite TV, air conditioning, minibar, hair dryer, telephone and a verandah or balcony. Hotel facilities include a shop, fresh water swimming pool and fitness centre including a tennis court and scuba diving centre. For departure dates and prices please see page 161.
town before heading off to Arusha National Park for your first chance of game viewing. DAY 3 - Morning departure for the drive to the Tarangire area and transfer to your hotel for an overnight stay. In the afternoon you will explore the vast expanse of Tarangire National Park offering the unique baobab tree as well as many herds of elephant. DAY 4 - Morning departure for the drive to the top of the Rift Valley Escarpment and the Lake Manyara Serena Lodge for an overnight stay. This afternoon descend to the floor of the escarpment for game viewing in the Lake National Park. This smaller park offers a great variety of primates. DAY 5 - Morning drive across the wheat plains, past maize fields and coffee farms to Gibbs Farm, at the edge of the Great Rift Valley, which extends 3,000 miles from north Syria to central Mozambique. Here you can enjoy the tranquillity of rural life in a timeless setting. Lunch is included. This afternoon you will continue to the Ngorongoro area for a two night stay. DAY 6 - Morning departure for a day of game viewing, spending half the day in the Ngorongoro Crater. You will descend into the crater in a four wheel drive vehicle. The crater is situated 7,500ft above sea level and is home to up to 25,000 large mammals, including zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, lion, cheetah, rhino and leopard. Countless flamingos form a beautiful pink blanket over the soda lakes. A picnic lunch is included today. DAY 7 - Morning departure for the drive to Serengeti National Park. A stop will be made at Olduvai Gorge. It was here that Dr Louis Leakey discovered the remains of one of the earliest humans. Tanzania now lays claim to the title `The Cradle of Mankind' because of this. Upon arrival in Serengeti, you will transfer to your accommodation for a two night stay.
This afternoon we include a game drive in the Serengeti National Park. Serengeti means `endless plain' in the Masai language, and within the boundaries of the park there are more than 3 million large mammals. 35 different species of plains animals can be seen here including the `Big Five' elephant, rhino, lion, leopard and buffalo. DAY 8 - Included morning and afternoon game drives in the Serengeti National Park. DAY 9 - Morning transfer to the Seronera airstrip for the flight to Arusha. Transfer to Kilimanjaro Airport for your return flight to the UK. DAY 10 - Arrival in the UK.
