Soak up the culture and natural beauty of this incredible area. YOUR ITINERARY DAY 1 Fly from Delhi to Bagdogra and then drive to Darjeeling. India is the land of tea, but Darjeeling is home to a unique tea, grown in these cooler conditions. It is also the place to experience breathtaking views of Mount Everest. This evening enjoy a stroll around the town. DAY 2 Watch the sunrise over Tiger Hill this morning. It has earned its fame for the spectacular sight of the sun climbing above the Eastern Himalayan peaks and turning everything around it to a rainbow of colours. You'll take a ride on the famous "Toy Train" before enjoying a sightseeing tour of Darjeeling in the afternoon, including the Tibetan Refuge Centre and Himalayan Mountaineering Institute. DAY 3 Drive from Darjeeling to Gangtok and stay for two nights. DAY 4 Drive to Rumtek in the morning for a tour of the Rumtek monastery. In the afternoon, return to Gangtok to visit the Enchey Monastery.

DAY 5 Travel through tea plantations on your way to Bagdogra for your flight to Calcutta, former capital of India for a two night stay. Here, grand Victorian buildings give an insight into times past. DAY 6 A full day is given to exploring Calcutta. Sights include St Paul's cathedral and the home of Mother Teresa. DAY 7 Fly back to the UK from Calcutta. This add-on is available in conjunction with our Himalayas tour (see pages 8889) and our 8 day India tour (see pages 7879). For those on the Himalayas tour, your flight home on day 7 will be from Delhi instead of Calcutta.

This is a wonderful opportunity to visit the remote kingdom of Bhutan. It is a country of stunning temples, myths and legends, whose people have managed to retain their ancient customs. You will experience magnificent mountain scenery, spectacular waterfalls and dense forests, home to some of the most exotic species of the eastern Himalayas, as well as a warm welcome. YOUR ITINERARY DAY 1 Fly from Kathmandu to the Paro Valley. As you fly towards the Tibetan border, look out at the glistening rivers, mighty waterfalls, vast forests and of course the snow-capped Himalayas. Drive on to the capital of Bhutan, Thimphu where you will visit Tashichhodzong, an important political and religious building and also the Handicrafts Emporium where you can see traditional Bhutanese arts and crafts. DAY 2 See more interesting sights on the way back to Paro today, including Drukgyel Dzong, a ruined fortress, Kyichu, a 7th century temple and Rinpung Dzong. DAY 3 Sightseeing tour of the Thimphu Valley. DAY 4 Fly to Delhi for an overnight stay. DAY 5 Arrive back in the UK.
