Guatemala, next door neighbour of Mexico, offers historic insights into times and cultures long gone. Take time to soak up all that Mexico City has to offer and marvel at the natural wonder of towering mountains, thundering waterfalls, glorious beaches and magnificent cities on the way. If you have a spirit of adventure, this really is a journey of discovery and a holiday of a lifetime.
YOUR ITINERARY - Depart on your scheduled flight to Guatemala City. On arrival, transfer to Antigua for a two night stay. Enjoy a welcome drink on arrival. DAY 2 - Today we have included a tour of Antigua, the former capital of Guatemala. Walk through the main plaza, passing some of the key monuments of the city. Look out for the beautiful colonial buildings that tell of a time when this country was a Spanish colony. You will also visit an organic coffee plantation at the Cultural Centre `La Azotea' and get to taste the best Antiguan coffee, and the Maya Music Museum `K'ojom', the cultural centre of Antigua, a UNESCO Heritage site. DAY 3 - En route to Lake Atitlan, we drive to the small town of Chichicastango. Here you will discover a wealth of tradition and culture, at the heart of the Maya-Quiche highlands, home to the indigenous Indian population. You will also discover the colourful markets that serve the surrounding villages. Marvel at the ancient church of St Tomas before heading off to the shores of Lake Atitlan for a two night stay. DAY 4 Absorb the natural beauty of the area today as we take a boat ride across the magnificent lake to the pretty village of Santiago. The backdrop of mountains and volcanoes is quite spectacular and the colour of the water is beautiful, often changing with the light. DAY 5 Today is at leisure to explore this most beautiful of areas yourself. Later on, you return to Antigua where you will stay for one night.
