All rooms feature private facilities. Hotel facilities include a restaurant and bar. Accommodation in Sukau and Mount Kinabalu will be simple but comfortable. HOLIDAY REF: LBOR The very name `Borneo' is one of the most romantic of the traveller's vocabulary. The island, one of the world's largest, remains remarkably unspoilt. Our tour visits the spectacular Malaysian state of Sabah in the north, which was under British rule until 1963. Here you'll find Mount Kinabalu, the highest peak in the region, surrounded by lush rainforests and river valleys and the centre piece to a world heritage national park. This area is home to an extraordinary variety of wildlife, including colourful plants and orchids, dazzling butterflies, exotic birds as well as elephants, turtles, monkeys, rhinos and tapirs. A highlight of the tour is a visit to the Sepilok Orang-utan Rehabilitation Centre dedicated to one of the island's most magnificent creatures. YOUR ITINERARY to explore! Watching the sun rise and set over the jagged backdrop of the great Mount Kinabalu, which overlooks the city, makes a perfect start or end to any day! DAY 3 - This morning there will be an included tour of the city. Discover the bustling markets, visit the Buddhist Temple and enjoy the splendid views from Signal Hill. Rest of the day at leisure. DAY 4 - Morning flight to Sandakan. Upon arrival drive to Sepilok Orang-utan Centre. In 1964, 9,880 acres were awarded to these magnificent and intelligent primates. Orangutan translates to `man of the forest' and you will never forget your first encounter with this incredible animal. This afternoon continue tothe Kinabatangan River. A cruise is included and our guide will point out proboscis monkeys and other indigenous animals in these tropical surroundings. Overnight in Sukau. DAY 5 - Morning departure for the return to Sandakan. Billed as the gateway to Borneo's wildlife, this prosperous port city is steeped in history and enjoys a bustling mixture of people, lifestyles, cultures and faiths. One night's accommodation has been arranged here. DAY 2 - Arrival in Kota Kinabalu, capital of the state of Sabah, located on the tip of the island of Borneo. Transfer to your hotel where two nights' accommodation has been arranged. Kota Kinabalu is known locally as Api Api, literally meaning `fire', as a reminder of a local mangrove tree where fireflies twinkle at night.
