Sunday 3rd Cruising at sea Monday 4th ­ Wednesday 6th Rio De Janeiro Arrive 0800 ­ Depart Midday (Feb 6th) Nestled between the ocean and lush, searing tropical mountains, Rio is one of the most captivating cities in the world. Fabulous golden beaches, including the famous Copacabana Beach, are seen in all their glory and the many famous landmarks of the city, including the statue of Christ the Redeemer and Sugar Loaf Mountain, combine to make this a city you will always remember. And a visit to Rio would be incomplete without experiencing the Rio Carnival. An optional excursion will take you to this, the greatest party on earth.You will see the spectacular processions, gigantic floats and glittering costumes which characterise this amazing event. Thursday 7th Cruising at sea Friday 8th Ilheus, Brazil Arrive 0900 ­ Depart 1600 Situated in the central region of Bahia, Ilheus was once one of the world's biggest producers of cocoa. It is known for its glorious sandy beaches, rich Portuguese heritage and traditional architecture. Saturday 9th Cruising at sea Sunday 10th Natal, Brazil Arrive 1300 ­ Depart 2300 There are plenty of places here worth exploring, including the church of Santo Antonio, the old cathedral and the Forte dos Reis Magos. Monday 11th ­ Thursday 14th Cruising at sea Friday 15th Praia Santiago, Cape Verde Islands Arrive 0700 ­ Depart 1300 Today we come to our second port in the Cape Verde Islands. Praia is the capital of one of the largest islands, Santiago. Make sure you take the time to stroll around the town on the look out for carved coconut shells and lacework. Saturday 16th ­ Tuesday 19th Cruising at sea Wednesday 20th Leixoes (for Oporto) Arrive 1300 ­ Depart 2200 On our homeward route, we come to the small port of Leixoes. It is the gateway to Oporto which is situated on the bank of the Douro River and the Atlantic Ocean. The centre is a rich mixture of medieval and 18th century architecture. If you like wine, you'll be at home here ­ across the Douro River is the port wine capital of the world ­ Vila Nova de Gaia. Thursday 21st Vigo Arrive 0700 ­ Depart 1300 Vigo is situated in a beautiful estuary, flanked by the Cies Islands in the Galicia region. Why not take an optional tour to visit the monumental city of Santiago de Compostela, which for centuries was considered an important destination for pilgrims, and is now considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
