Optional excursions include a city tour and a visit to a Husky camp. Tuesday 24th Cruising at sea. Wednesday 25th Alesund Arrive 0800 Depart 1700 Devastated by fire in 1904, Alesund was rebuilt in Art Nouveau style with colourful, extravagantly decorated facades, spires and turrets, which give this lively fishing community a fairytale appearance. Optional excursions include a visit to the neighbouring outer islands of Giske and Godoy and a trip to the fascinating open-air museum to see traditional scenes from Norwegian life throughout the ages. Thursday 26th Bergen Arrive 0800 Depart 2000 The `Gateway to the Fjords' is a city steeped in history. The colourfully painted and gabled former warehouses are now home to craft stores and friendly cafes. Optional excursions include a ride up into the hills for a spectacular view over the city or a visit to the home of composer Edvard Grieg at Troldhaugen. Friday 27th Stavanger Arrive 0800 Depart 1800 You'll feel like you're stepping back in time today as you stroll through Stavanger's Old Town, lined with timber houses, gas lamps and picket

TREVOR GUNTON ORNITHOLOGIST/NORSE HISTORIAN
Trevor Gunton spent 30 years with RSPB and is an active and respected ornithologist, with a particular interest in the seabirds of the North Atlantic. Since his early retirement, Trevor is on the central lecturing panels of the National Trust and the RSPB and also an active volunteer at his local nature reserve. Most recently he has devoted a considerable amount of time studying the Viking/Norse cultures.

Its rugged beauty, craggy peaks and soaring cliffs provide the ideal nesting ground for an abundance of birdlife. Join a shore excursion to the picturesque village of Nusfjord and the Vestvagoy Fishing Museum, which demonstrates how fishermen lived many years ago. Saturday 21st Honningsvag (for the North Cape) Arrive 2000 Depart 0100 To spend the summer solstice at the North Cape is a rare opportunity and you'll feel as though you're on top of the world as you stand on the 1,000ft-high cliffs.
