Saturday 6th Fowey Arrive 0830 ­ Depart 1800 The pretty port of Fowey is quintessentially Cornish, with the town on one side of the deepwater estuary and the village of Polruan on the other. The area is associated with writer Daphne du Maurier, and an exhibition of her work can be found in the town centre. There will also be the chance to take up an optional excursion to the Eden Project ­ an unforgettable experience. Just one of the massive biomes, or giant conservatories, is big enough to house the Tower of London. Sunday 7th Portland Arrive 0800 ­ Depart 1800 Perhaps best known for its famous stone and the lighthouse at Portland Bill, the Isle of Portland has dramatic scenery, spectacular views and a remarkable history. Joined to Weymouth and the mainland by the amazing Chesil Beach and a public road bridge, Waterford Portland is a striking, tilted table of limestone four-and-a-half-miles long and less than 2 miles wide. Its unique geology and position are ideal for a wide variety of birds, animals and plant life. Overlooking the harbour is the castle, a perfectly preserved Tudor stronghold, built at the time of Henry VIII to defend Britain against French and Spanish invasion. Portland is situated at the centre of the Jurassic Coast and an optional excursion will explore the area's outstanding geology from the Jurassic, Triassic and Cretaceous periods. Alternatively, enjoy visits to the delightful Mapperton House with its stunning gardens or the romantic 17th century Lulworth Castle set in beautiful parkland. The tour includes demonstrations of glassblowing, cutting, engraving and polishing, plus the opportunity to talk to some of the master craftspeople and enjoy the visitor centre with its stunning gallery and showroom.
