New Zealand, roughly the same size as Great Britain, passes through a range of latitudes from the floral, frost-free Northlands to the sub-arctic southern tip of South Island. Our superb itinerary includes a number of excursions in the price. Theres also the opportunity to stay longer and visit friends or relations, and to break your return journey in the exotic island paradises of either Tahiti or Fiji. No-one offers better value! YOUR ITINERARY DAY 1 - Depart on your scheduled flight to New Zealand. DAY 3 - Because you cross the International Dateline during your flight you will lose Day 2 and arrive in Auckland in the morning of Day 3. (Dont worry youll catch up on the way home!) The rest of the day is free, as we know from experience that you will wish to rest and relax after your flight. You will stay for two nights. DAY 4 - The beautiful city of Auckland is the largest in New Zealand, situated on North Island in the spectacular Gulf of Hauraki. Today we include a city tour then leave you to explore on your own. DAY 5 - Morning departure from Auckland for your journey north to the beautiful Bay of Islands. You will travel via the Hibiscus Coast visiting the Matakohe Kauri Museum where you can learn about the early European settlement of New Zealand. In the afternoon you will have the opportunity to visit the Treaty House of Waitingi where the Maori, in 1840, accepted British sovereignty for ownership of their traditional lands. Accommodation has been arranged in Paihia for two nights. DAY 6 - Full day optional excursion to Cape Reinga. This is described as one of the finest scenic day tours in the world. Highlights include a drive on Ninety Mile Beach, a negotiation of the Te Paki Quick Sand Stream and a visit to the Wagener Museum. At Cape Reinga visit the lighthouse, post a card from New Zealands northernmost Post Office and enjoy spectacular views including the meeting of the two oceans, the blue Pacific and the deep green Tasman Sea. DAY 7 - This morning join an optional cruise to Cape Brett, to explore the spectacular Bay of Islands further. This afternoon you travel south to the picturesque Whangerei Town Basin and visit Claphams Clock Museum, returning in the afternoon to Auckland where overnight accommodation has been arranged. DAY 8 - The warm, emerald green North Island was shaped originally by the fire of volcanoes, and evidence of this remains in the thermal springs surrounding Rotorua which is our destination today. Your journey will take you south through Ngaruawahia, home of the Maori Queen, and Hamilton to the world-famous Waitomo Caves. Here weve included a guided tour of the amazing glow worm grotto before continuing to Rotorua for a two night stay. DAY 9 - Morning included visit to Whakarewarewa Thermal Reserve to view the boiling mud pools and spouting geysers. Optional afternoon excursion to the Agrodome to see a display of working sheep dogs and a visit to Rainbow Springs to see the rare kiwi bird, the national emblem of New Zealand. Alternatively, relax in one of the thermal baths in Rotorua. During the evening there will be an opportunity to visit a Maori Concert and Hangi, a meal cooked in centuries-old fashion by underground steam. DAY 10 - Drive south through the Wairakei Valley, past the spectacular Huka Falls to stunningly beautiful Lake Taupo, New Zealands largest freshwater lake. Continue to Wellington, the capital city of New Zealand which enjoys a beautiful setting on the southern tip of North Island.
