ADD-ON ADD-ON We have included a short city tour and an overnight stay before flying back to Beijing and then home. YOUR CRUISE VESSEL You will cruise the Yangtze Gorges on board the MV Sunshine or similar. This cruise vessel has twin cabins with private facilities for approximately 130 persons and features a restaurant, bar, coffee shop, viewing deck and is fully-air conditioned. Yangtze Gorges Cruise 4 nights from £599 Highlights include: Wuhan Yichang Three Gorges Dam Xiling Gorge Wuxia & Qutang Gorges Chongqing Marco Polo said of the River Yangtze that its width is such that it is more like a sea than a river. This is true of the Yangtze in the central plains, yet further upstream it has cut its way through some of the worlds most spectacular gorges. At the end of your China holiday, spend time cruising along the mighty Yangtze River, aboard the MV Sunshine or similar. The cruise begins with a visit to the site of the mighty Three Gorges Dam, the biggest in the world. Proceed upstream through the Xiling Gorge, continue through the Wuxia and Qutang Gorges and a fascinating side trip will be taken up the Shennong Stream, a tributary of the Yangtze. Your cruise ends in Chongqing, one of the most absorbing cities in all China, with its bustling water traffic, fascinating street life, lively markets and small restaurants famous for Sichuan cuisine. Tibet 7 nights from £1199 YOUR ITINERARY DAY 1 - This will be the last day of the main itinerary. Transfer to Beijing airport for your flight to Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, set amid breathtaking mountain scenery. On arrival, transfer to your hotel for a three night stay. DAYS 2 & 3 - Over the next two days, enjoy ADD-ON Yangtze Gorges Cruise Highlights include: Chengdu Visit to the Panda Reserve Lhasa Tibet is a strange, remote and staggeringly beautiful country situated high up in the Himalayas. Isolated until recently from the outside world, Tibet remains a devoutly Buddhist nation. This fascinating add-on offers a real contrast to the frenetic cities of China. You will spend two nights in Chengdu, with a sightseeing excursion included. Highlights of the tour include the Thatched Cottage of Du Fu, the Wuhou Temple, and the Chengdu Giant Panda Reserve. You then fly to Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, for a five night stay. In Lhasa we include a full day sightseeing tour. In the old quarter, farmers bring produce for the market by donkey, vendors set up stalls and potters spread their wares in the dust. Lhasa is dominated by the vast Potala Palace, once the seat of the exiled Dalai Lama and still used for worship today. You will also see the Jokhang Oakace, Barkhor Bazaar and the Sera Monastery. You will also have the opportunity to take an optional two night excursion to Yangzhuo Sacred Lake and Shigatse, where you will pass some magnificent scenery on your way to Gyantse then on to Shigatse. En route, you will visit the wonderful Palkor Chode Monastery, and in Shigatse, see the Tashilunpo Monastery, founded in 1447. At the end of your stay, you will fly back to Beijing for your flight home. YOUR HOTELS You will stay in the Tibet Hotel in Chengdu and the Tibet Hotel in Lhasa. Accommodation in Tibet is simple but comfortable and all rooms feature private facilities. All meals are included. our included sightseeing programme of Lhasa, 4 nights from £599 which is taken at a relaxed pace in order to acclimatise to the high altitude. Highlights include Lhasas famous and vast Potala Palace, the religious and geographical centre of Lhasa - the Jokhang Temple, the Barkhor Bazaar, which is the centre point of all Tibetan street trading and the 15th century Sera Monsastery. Tibet by train 4 nights from £995 Highlights include: Lhasa Train journey Take a trip on the worlds highest and most spectacular railway line. You will be taken across vast plains, past sparkling lakes and the dramatic snow-capped mountains of the Himalayas. DAY 4 - Board the overnight train to Xining. DAY 5 - Return flight to Beijing. This will be the last day of both the 10 and 15 day tours. YOUR HOTEL You will stay in the Tibet Hotel in Lhasa. This centrally located hotel is one of the best in Lhasa and offers stunning views of the nearby mountains. YOUR TRAIN Your journey will be in air-conditioned modern soft 4-berth carriages which convert into your sleeping quarters for the overnight part of your journey. All compartments are fitted with windows and are pressurised so you should not suffer from altitude sickness. There are bathrooms at the end of each carriage plus a restaurant car. ALTITUDE: TIBET During the Tibet add-on you will travel to altitudes of over 12,000ft, and to almost 17,000ft on the Tibet by Train add-on. This should not be a problem, although everyone should take it easy at first. If you suffer from heart or respiratory conditions or have any other concerns please consult your doctor. If taking the Tibet by Train add-on, the train compartments are pressurised, and there will be a doctor on board and oxygen available in the rare instance of altitude sickness.
