THE GREAT WALL THE BUND, SHANGHAI DAY 9 - This morning we include a visit to the Great Wall which is some 3,800 miles long and at least 2,600 years old and winds like an immense dragon through the hills of northern China and passes within 40 miles of Beijing at Badaling, where it is wide enough to allow five horsemen to ride abreast. Free time to walk along the historic ramparts before lunch, followed by a visit to the Ming Tombs where thirteen emperors are buried. During the evening there will be a special Peking Duck Dinner. You will cruise along the Li River, admiring the picturesque limestone hills dotting the landscape. You will fly to Guilin, said to be the Pearl of China, and one of the most beautiful areas in the country. Sat on the Li River, it is an important cultural city with more than 2,000 years of history. You will stay for two nights in Guilin, where we include a visit to the Reed Flute Cave, a spectacular world of stalactites, stalagmites, stone pillars and rock formations, and Elephant Trunk Hill, where the river has eroded a hole in the hillside, making it look incredibly like an elephant with its trunk in the water. You will then take a day long cruise along the Li River from Guilin to Yangsho, where you stay for another two nights. In Yangshou, we include an hour-long walking tour along the Yulong River, before you have the rest of the day free for sightseeing.
