the winter months are between 40-70°F, while summer temperatures can reach the 100s. Namibia: The coast of the Namibia desert is kept cool and free of rain by the Benguela current. Inland, all the rain falls in their summer (November to April). Temperatures are high in the summer and warm during the winter. Temperatures are cool at high altitudes. Average year round temperature is 70°F. South Africa: The climate is temperate and agreeable with hot summers, and winters which compare favourably with our summer. The seasons are reversed so departures from January to June enjoy the delights of summer and early autumn. The departures from August to November will enjoy spring and summer conditions. Average daily temperatures are around 60-70°F with a little humidity on the Natal Coast. Zambia: There are three seasons in Zambia. The dry, cool winter season is from May to September. October and November are the dry season, and the rainy season which is the hottest part of the year is from December to April. The average maximum temperature year-round is about 80°F. Please note the water levels are at their lowest between September and October and at their highest April to May. and are usually followed by brilliant sunshine. Thailand: Thailand is a great winter sun destination. The south of Thailand experiences an equatorial climate with an average temperature in Bangkok and Pattaya of 83°F. Humidity is high with the occasional rain shower between June and October, usually followed by brilliant sunshine. The area of Chiang Mai, in the north, enjoys slightly cooler temperatures. Tibet: Cold winters, cool summers and generally dry. The most pleasant months for visitors are from April to October. Vietnam:The climate during winter in the North can be cold, average temperature is about 50°F60°F. In the South the climate is more consistent year round with a average temperature of 84°F. For our Vietnam for Christmas & New Year tour and winter departures we advise a mixture of warm and light summer clothes Cuba: Cuba enjoys a sub-tropical climate all year round with an average daily temperature of 80°F. Most rainfall occurs between May and October. The least rain falls between January and April but the temperature is cooler. Ecuador: Ecuador is a diverse country ranging from warm coastal areas to the cooler Andes Mountains which will become quite cold at night. Rainfall is always higher in the coastal and jungle areas. Galapagos Islands: The Galapagos Islands experience very little rainfall and average temperatures of 70-85°F. Mexico: Mexico enjoys warm, sunny weather for most of the year with some rain between May and October. Nicaragua: Most of Nicaragua has a tropical climate. The rainy season is between June and November. The average daily temperature is around 80°F. Peru: Peru enjoys a varied climate with an average daily temperature of around 70°F in the cities of Lima and Cuzco. Temperatures drop dramatically at night so warm clothing is essential. For more advice see our fact sheet. In the Amazon region high humidity is to be expected, with temperatures of approximately 85°F. Showers are generally torrential but brief. When you arrive in Laos, you will need to submit these forms. The cost of the visa will be added to your conrmation/invoice and paid for by us. Nepal single £37.50, multiple £72.50 We will obtain a Nepalese visa for you. We will add the visa charge to your conrmation/invoice, and send you all of the information that you will need. You will need to send us your passport as part of the application process. If you are taking the Tibet add-on you will need a multiple visa. This cost is £70. Tanzania - £55.50 We will obtain a Tanzanian visa for you. We will add the visa charge to your conrmation/invoice, and send you all of the information and applications forms that you will need. You will need to send us your passport as part of the application process. Tibet - £30 We will obtain a Tibet visa for you. We will add the charge to your conrmation/ invoice. We will obtain this using information you supply to us at the time of booking. If you are taking the combined China and Tibet tour the charge is included in the China visa fee. Turkey - £10 Your Turkish visa will be issued on arrival. There are no forms to complete, but you will need to pay £10 per person in cash on arrival. We recommend that you have one £10 note per person. USA Information in this section applies to holders of a full British Passport only. Holders of any other passport will need to make enquiries with the relevant embassies. Do I need a passport to visit the USA? If you are travelling to the United States of America as part of the Visa Waiver Programme (see below), you must be in possession of a passport that is valid for at least 90 days from the date when the holder enters the United States. Your passport must be one of the following: E-passport From 26 October 2006 you must have an e-passport to travel to the US on the Visa Waiver Programme (VWP) if your passport is issued on or after 26 October 2006. An epassport contains an integrated computer chip that is capable of storing information from the bio data page. e-passports are easily identied as they all have a symbol on the front cover to indicate that the document contains an integrated chip. Machine readable passports (MRP) If your passport was issued before 26 October 2006, but is still valid, you may continue to use it to travel to the USA. But your passport must be machine readable. An MRP has the holders personal details, eg. name, date of birth, nationality and their passport number contained in two lines of text at the bottom of the photo page. This text may be read by machine. Do I need a visa to enter the USA? Most visitors to the United States can enter the country as part of the Visa Waiver Programme. Subject to the following conditions, it is NOT necessary to obtain a visa. " You are travelling for business, pleasure or in transit " You are staying in the United States for 90 days or less " You hold a return or onward ticket " You are in possession of an I-94W form, available from airline check-in counters. " Children must have their own passport IMPORTANT: Some travellers may not be eligible to enter the United States visa free under the Visa Waiver Programme. These include people who have been arrested, those with criminal records, certain serious communicable illnesses, those who have been refused admission to or have been deported from the United States or have previously overstayed on the Visa Waiver Programme. If any of these things apply to you and you attempt to travel without a visa, you may be refused entry to the United States. Travellers with minor trafc offences (except those committed in the United States) that did not result in an arrest and/or conviction for the offence may travel visa free, provided they are otherwise qualied. AUSTRALASIA & THE PACIFIC OCEAN
Australia: The seasons are reversed in Australia. Our departures in the winter months enjoy the delights of summer. Departures from May to July will experience the autumn. Those in October and November will enjoy spring/summer conditions. Average daytime temperatures in Perth and Sydney will be very similar (around 75°F) whilst the climate at the Great Barrier Reef is on average some 10°F hotter and you may also encounter occasional rain showers. These tend to be torrential but are usually followed by brilliant sunshine. Virtually all public buildings, shops, restaurants, etc. have air-conditioning. Fiji and Tahiti: Average daytime temperatures will remain in the 80s throughout the year with at least six hours of sunshine every day. Rain showers can be expected between December and May but are usually followed by brilliant sunshine. New Zealand: The seasons are reversed in New Zealand but it has a very similar climate to Britain, so rain clouds will appear from time to time. There are no extreme hot conditions; the winter months in the South Island can be very cold with snow in the mountains. The west side of the islands receives more rain than anywhere else. The average temperature will be about 55°F.
ASIA
Bhutan: Temperatures drop dramatically with increases in altitude. Generally the foothills are pleasant during the winter months (NovMar), average temperatures 10°C/50°F with clear skies. The best times to travel are usually October, November and from April to mid-June when rainfall is lowest and temperatures conducive to active sightseeing. Nights are cold and require layers of very warm clothing, particularly in winter. Cambodia: Cambodia has a tropical climate. The rainy season extends from May until November but rainfall tends to be sporadic, usually in the afternoon, and is then followed by brilliant sunshine. From November to April, the weather is hot and sunny with temperatures averaging 80°F. China: In the winter months in Beijing, the days will be sunny, but cold and crisp, and warm clothing is necessary. Further south, in the central region of China, winters are much milder. For example, average daily temperatures in Xian, Chongqing and the Yangtze Gorges are 5060°F. April, early May, September and October are beautifully warm and sunny in Beijing, Xian, Nanjing and Shanghai with daytime temperatures reaching the upper 60s. Late May to August will be quite hot, with daytime temperatures reaching the upper 80s especially in Xian and Nanjing, which can be quite humid, as can Chongqing and the Yangtze Gorges. Chengdu and Wolong have a subtropical climate with an annual average temperature of 64°F. Average temperatures in Jiuzhaigou and the Yellow Mountains range from 50°F in April and October to 65°F in high summer. Hong Kong: Hong Kong can have the occasional cold spell during the winter, but in general is warmer than most of China due to its southerly situation. Average temperatures range between 70-80°F throughout the year. There may also be occasional rain showers, which tend to be torrential but brief, and are usually followed by brilliant sunshine. Snow and frost are virtually unknown. India: The Indian climate is generally tropical with average daily temperatures of 85°F. Rain showers can be expected between May and October. Winter months can be cold. India is a vast continent so temperatures will vary. Japan: A very similar climate to Britain, with four distinct seasons coinciding with our own. Overall Japan is a few degrees warmer. Laos: Laos has a tropical climate. The rainy season extends from May until October, but rainfall tends to be sporadic, usually falls in the afternoon, and is then followed by brilliant sunshine. From November to April, the weather is hot and sunny with temperatures averaging 80°F. Malaysia: Temperatures vary little from month to month in Kuala Lumpur and Penang at 85°F. Humidity is high and there is the chance that thunderstorms will accompany rainfall. Nepal: Nepal generally enjoys warm and settled weather with average daily temperatures ranging from 65-75°F. Sudden drops in temperature can occur in the evening. Rain showers can be expected from May to September. Winter months can drop to freezing. Singapore: The weather will be hot and humid, with as much as nine hours of sunshine each day with an average daily temperature of 80°F. Sri Lanka: A tropical climate with relatively high temperatures and humidity. The temperatures on the coast are reduced slightly by the sea breezes and in the area of Nuwara Eliya it is slightly cooler due to the altitude. Torrential rain showers are to be expected from May to July and December to January. These tend to be brief
PASSPORTS
It is essential for British citizens to possess a full ten year passport, valid for at least six months beyond the return date for all holidays in this brochure. If you do not have a passport, you should enquire at your local main Post Ofce or nearest Passport Ofce at least three months before departure. If you require a visa for your chosen destination and you have to apply for a new passport we must have the correct passport number or your visa will be invalid. Please note: If you are 16 or over and havent yet got a passport, our recommendation is that you should apply for one at least three months before your holiday. The UK Passport Service has to conrm your identity before issuing your rst passport and will ask you to attend an interview in order to do this.
VISA REQUIREMENTS
British citizens who hold a British passport need a visa to visit the countries weve listed below. In most cases, were able to arrange this for you. Well add the cost of the visa, plus a small handling fee, to your conrmation/invoice. If you hold any other type of passport, its your responsibility to check passport and visa requirements with the embassy of the country youre visiting. Were unable to accept any responsibility if you cant travel because youre not granted a visa. Australia - £15 To enter Australia, you need an ETA (electronic travel authority). We will obtain this for you, using information that we will ask you to supply at the time of booking. The cost of the ETA will be added to your conrmation/ invoice. Bhutan US$20 We will send you two application forms per person. Please return one form to us. When you arrive in Bhutan, you will need to submit the second form, together with two passport sized photographs, and a cash payment of US$10. Cambodia - £32.50 We will obtain a Cambodian visa for you. We will add the visa charge to your conrmation/invoice, and send you all of the information and applications forms that you will need. You will need to send us your passport as part of the application process. China - £45 We will obtain a Chinese visa for you. We will add the visa charge to your conrmation/invoice. We will obtain this for you using information that we will ask you to supply at the time of booking. Please note: In certain cases it may be necessary for us to obtain an individual visa rather than a group visa. As part of this application process we will require your passport up to eight weeks before travel. Cuba - £25 We will obtain a Cuban visa for you. We will add the visa charge to your conrmation/invoice. We will obtain this for you using information that we will ask you to supply at the time of booking. Egypt - £35 We will obtain an Egyptian visa for you. We will add the visa charge to your conrmation/invoice. We will obtain this for you using information that we will ask you to supply at the time of booking. India - £47.50 We will obtain an Indian visa for you. We will add the visa charge to your conrmation/invoice, and send you all of the information and applications forms that you will need. You will need to send us your passport as part of the application process. Jordan - £21 We will obtain a Jordanian visa for you. We will add the visa charge to your conrmation/invoice. We will obtain this for you using information that we will ask you to supply at the time of booking.
THE MIDDLE EAST
Egypt: Egypt generally enjoys warm winters but sudden drops in temperature can occur in the evenings. Spring and summer daytime temperatures, especially in Luxor, can be extremely high and most sightseeing is done in the cool of the early morning, in order to avoid the midday heat. Average daily temperatures in Cairo are 65-85°F. Jordan: Spring and autumn average daily temperatures vary from 70-80°F and some days can be very hot, especially in Aqaba. The summer months of June, August and early September tend to be very hot. Rain falls between November and March, while colder weather conditions occur in December/January. Turkey: Coastal Turkey enjoys an enviable Mediterranean climate with hot sunny days and cooler evenings. We avoid the stiing heat in the very hot summer. Average daytime temperatures in spring and autumn are 60-70°F.
LATIN AMERICA & THE CARIBBEAN
Argentina: Argentinas climate in the central zone is temperate, with mild winters and warm, wet summers. Departures from January to May will enjoy the delights of summer and early autumn with temperatures in the mid 70s. From June to November temperatures are on average 60°F. Our holidays to Patagonia will operate between October and April with average daily temperatures between 60-75°F. It is not, however, unusual for temperatures to change quickly. Bolivia: Due to the high altitude, temperatures are slightly cooler compared to Bolivias neighbours, and can drop dramatically at night. Average maximum daily temperatures in La Paz range from 55-60°F. Brazil: In southern Brazil, the average daily temperature remains constant at around 80°F from December to April, and 70°F for the remainder of the year. Humidity can be high. The rainy season occurs from November to March. Chile: In the central region of Chile (including Santiago) the climate is Mediterranean. Average daytime temperatures in January can reach 80°F but fall to 60°F in July. Days are usually hot and the nights are cool. The southern region is subject to excessive rainfall and storms. Costa Rica: In the Central Valley, where the main centres of population are located, the average temperature is 72°F. In the coastal areas the temperature is much hotter. The rainy season starts in May and nishes in November. The warm dry season is December to May, though temperature differences between summer and winter are slight.
