DAYS 2 & 3 - Please see description of Days 2 & 3 on page 110. DAY 4 - Depart on your scheduled flight to Cairo. On arrival transfer to your hotel for a three night stay. Afternoon visit to the world-famous Egyptian Museum which includes treasures from the tombs of Tutankhamen. DAY 5 - Today we include a full day tour of some of Egypts famous monuments. The worldrenowned Giza Pyramids are by no means the only pyramids in Lower Egypt, and this morning you will visit Dahshur, whose treasures have only recently been revealed to visitors. There were originally eleven pyramids at Dahshur, although only four remain intact. You will see the curious Bent Pyramid, and the fabulous Red Pyramid, which is only 30ft smaller than the Great Pyramid at Giza. Here you can enter the pyramid and descend through a passageway to the burial chamber at its very centre. You then visit Saqqara. Few archaeological sites in the world can compare with this four-mile-long burial site. The magnificent Step Pyramid is the highlight. Finally you will see the ruins of Memphis, the former capital of Old Egypt. This afternoon you will continue on an included visit to the legendary Pyramids and the Sphinx. The great Pyramids of Giza stand on a rocky plateau on the western bank of the Nile. They are the most famous, intensely measured, studied and debated monuments in the world. Close to the Pyramids lies the magnificent Sphinx, a huge statue of a recumbent lion with a human head believed to be fashioned in the likeness of the Pharaoh Chephren. DAY 6 - Full day included visit to Cairos magnificent Citadel, the Sultan Hassan Mosque and Khan El Khalili Bazaar. DAY 7 - Depart Cairo for the drive to St. Catherine via the Suez Canal. Continue into the dramatic countryside of the Sinai Peninsula for an overnight stay close to Mount Sinai, where Moses received the Ten Commandments. DAY 8 - Morning visit to the nearby St. Catherines Monastery. A handful of Greek Orthodox monks still live in this ancient fortress and monastery, built in the 6th century at the foot of Mount Sinai. The collection of icons and jewelled crosses is priceless. In the afternoon transfer to Nuweiba on the Red Sea for an overnight stay. DAY 9 - Morning free to relax at the hotel. Optional visit to the Coloured Canyon. Afternoon transfer to the ferry for the sailing to Aqaba in Jordan for a two night stay. DAY 10 - Free to explore the town of Aqaba. You will also have the chance to take tea with the nomadic Bedouins. DAY 11 - Full day visit to Petra and an overnight stay. Please see description of Day 5 on page 110. DAY 12 - Drive to Kerak to see the castle, one of the largest and most impregnable of the fortresses built by the crusaders.
