82 Family Discovery Tours New for 2008, we have expanded our selection of Family Discovery Tours to include a new fully accommodated 14-day lodging trip. The 14-day Costa Rica Discovery is perfect for exploring the rainforests, volcanoes and beaches of Costa Rica, with ample opportunities to observe wildlife (including monkeys!) As with our other Family Discovery Tours, the hotels are comfortable and most have swimming pools to keep you cool under the Central American sun. Lodging offer of mountains, deserts and national parks in the western USA (both camping and fully accommodated), while the 11-day camping Canadian Discovery offers a perfect way to discover western Canada. All of our Discovery Tours, whether camping or lodging, offer a winning combination of adventure, activities and relaxation in the company of other fun-loving families from around the world. Please note - due to the nature of these tours, the minimum age is 8 years old. However, children aged 6 and 7 will be considered upon request. We also offer additional departures on the following popular tours in the USA and Canada: The 10-day fully accommodated Cowboys and Indians Discovery, the 12-day Western Discovery (camping) & Western Discovery Our small groups are perfect for kids and parents alike. There is a great variety of fun activities and a real taste of the great outdoors for everyone on every trip! Family-friendly adventure Our Discovery Tours have been specifically designed with the whole family in mind. Plenty of time for relaxation and fun-filled activities, with less time spent `on the road´- allowing the opportunity to get out and enjoy the local sights and culture. Our camping tours are aimed at families who like to get involved and participate in a variety of activities (like pitching a tent or cooking). Campsites all have hot showers and normal flush toilets, and some also have swimming pools. Accommodation on our lodging tours is usually in comfortable, tourist class hotels, motels or lodges, but some tours include fun alternatives like a working mountain ranch, where we `rough it´ a little and share basic facilities. Most hotels have swimming pools and other basic conveniences. As well as making sure the kids are never bored, our tours take away the hassle of driving, planning and organizing your travels - so you can relax and enjoy the holiday as well! Groups are small (average 12 passengers) and you will quickly get to know the other families with whom you are travelling. As our tours are sold in over 30 countries, you may soon be making new friends with someone from the other side of the world. Places to see, things to do Travel in itself is a fun and educational experience for children of all ages, but our featured destinations are particularly appealing to young travellers, full of many sites and attractions to make yours say, "Wow!" With plenty of time for relaxing or just `chilling out´, our itineraries also offer an amazing variety of optional and included activities, from a relaxing soak in a natural hot spring to an exhilarating Navajo guided Jeep tour of Monument Valley. How about riding the range like a real western cowboy, getting up close and personal with the wildlife of the Canadian Rockies or exploring Mayan temples deep in the jungles of Mexico? Be warned, if your only idea of a family holiday is two weeks in a 4-star hotel reading a bestseller, while your kids amuse themselves at the beach; then our Discovery Tours may not be for you. But, if you want to get out there and show your kids the world, share in an experience of a lifetime and make the most of your family holiday, then we might have just the thing for you! NATIONAL PARK SERVICE JUNIOR RANGER PROGRAM The goal of the program is to introduce children to the wonders of the national parks and their role in preserving them for the future. To become a Junior Ranger in most national parks families will need to purchase an activity newspaper, complete the requirements described and have it checked at one of the visitor centres. Children are then awarded an official Junior Ranger patch. Requirements for completion vary from park to park but may include attending a ranger-led program, hiking on a park trail, or completing activity pages that encourage direct experience and discovery learning in diverse park environments.
