Undiscovered Destinations is proud to be the first UK based operator to offer a comprehensive programme to one of the least visited countries in Africa. Due to the devastating civil war that racked Angola for nearly 30 years, it is a destination better known for the horrors of the landmine rather than its many spectacular natural attractions. Our carefully researched group and private tours offer the unique opportunity to safely explore a hidden and diverse land. You will discover a dramatic coastline, desert oasis, national parks, salt marshes and magical lagoons: home to an astonishing abundance of bird and marine life. For most travellers the highlight will almost certainly be the rare opportunity to meet remote tribal people who have little contact with the outside world. This is the Angola we are keen to promote, a proud country and people with a new sense of optimism. Today's Angola, a Portuguese colony until 1975, is stable and our carefully researched areas of exploration await discovery by the intrepid. Experienced travellers agree, Angola offers many of the attractions that can be found in other countries in the region, including Namibia. For the real traveller Angola is a special, pioneering experience reserved only for those with a true sense of adventure. As with all our destinations we have a passion for Angola and its people. We believe that responsible tourism, which reflects the challenges of travelling in such a fragile nation, is crucial to future social and economic development. Furthermore, at Undiscovered Destinations, we actively support the work being carried out by organisations such as the Mines Advisory Group (MAG). Clearing the country of land mines and unexploded ordnance is an enormous task and one that we are keen to follow. When we started our operations in Angola we gave a financial donation to MAG as a sign of our commitment to this cause. Building on the phenomenal interest we received for our tours in 2007 and the success of our first group departures, we are delighted to be able to offer a newly expanded range of itineraries for 2008. Not only will we be adding more tour dates taking in the spectacular and little visited south, home to several tribes including the Himba people, we have now included a new overland journey, starting in the vibrant capital Luanda. The Angolan Coastal Explorer is yet another first for Undiscovered Destinations. Hugging the stunning coastline our journey south is based on stays at comfortable lodges and hotels, as well as some camping before reaching our final destination, the pleasant city of Lubango. Travellers will have the chance to discover deserted beaches, charming colonial towns, national parks and a desert landscape, that is even more spectacular than Namibia's famous Skeleton Coast. With more emphasis on a cultural experience, our Angolan Southern Explorer builds on the success of our original programme with plenty of opportunity to meet remote tribal people, totally untouched by the outside world, and whose way of life has remained unchanged for centuries. Previous clients have already described the trip as being amongst their greatest travel experiences anywhere. For those with less time, we also offer the Angolan Beach Adventure. Similar to the Southern Explorer, our accommodation is based on the excellent Flamingo Lodge, where optional activities include superb fishing or exploring the northern extent of the Namib Desert by quadbike. Our local guides have in-depth knowledge and experience in the area, as well as the indigenous people inhabiting this largely unexplored region of Southern Africa. Features such as Parque National de Iona, Serra de Lebba, Foz du Cunene, and Baia dos Tigres are unsurpassed in their natural beauty and provide unrivalled opportunities for nature lovers, photographers, bird watchers and overland enthusiasts. With four superb adventures on offer, we are determined to remain at the forefront of tourism in Angola.
