Secondly, the wildlife is spectacular with the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti home to a permanent large animal population of over a million, with an annual influx of more than two million during the dry season. An astonishing 25% of Tanzania's land area is given over to protected wildlife parks and 20% of Africa's larger mammals are to be found here. Impressive statistics indeed and this itinerary encompasses some of the best parks in Tanzania. Day 2 Drive to Lake Manyara (3 hrs) for two nights at the 4-star Serena Safari Lodge. Afternoon game drive in Lake Manyara National Park. Day 3 Morning walking safari along the Rift Valley escarpment overlooking the lake. Afternoon game drive. Day 4 Visit the pre-historic site of the Olduvai Gorge and its museum. Continue to the Serengeti National Park (6 hrs) for two nights at the 4-star Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge. Afternoon game drive. Day 5 Optional early morning hot air balloon ride.
