pread across seven hills overlooking the enormously expansive estuary of the Tagus, the magnificence of Lisbon derives from a combination of its setting, layout, rich history and unquestionable charm. One of Lisbon's hills, the Alfama, was developed by the Moors and retains a medieval street plan and much of its original citadel. Separating the hills in the valley below lays one of Europe's earliest and finest experiments in city planning. Here, a succession of beautiful Baroque squares and tree-lined avenues lead from the former royal palace on the banks of the Tagus, to the summit of a hill behind, crowned at its apex with a belvedere, and Lisbon's largest park. With unlimited free use of the city's transport system, using a 3-day Lisbon Card, we offer all these key sites, together with complimentary or reduced museum and monument entrances. This 4-star hotel is located in the heart of Lisbon, close to the tram network, railway station and a choice of metro stations. The 373 air-conditioned rooms have private facilities, hairdryer, mini-bar, safe and satellite TV. There is a bar, restaurant, coffee shop and a fine terrace with panoramic views.

Day 1 Fly from your chosen airport to Lisbon and transfer to the 4-star Hotel Mundial for a four-night stay. There will be a welcome information meeting (time to be advised), with a glass of port. Day 2 Take a tram to St. George's Castle (a 10-minute walk from the tram stop to the castle). Tour the nearby Museum of Decorative Arts and stroll through the cobbled streets of Alfama. Please note that there are numerous steps to be negotiated. Take a second tram and disembark in the elegant quarter of Bairro Alto. Day 3 Take a tram to Belém and visit the Ajuda Palace and tour the Jerónimos Monastery. Day 4 Take a train to Sintra to tour a former royal palace. Continue to the Quinta da Regaleira. Afternoon at leisure in Sintra. Day 5 Return flight.
