hroughout the millennia the island of Cyprus has been of great political importance and was invaded many times. Romans, Persians, Crusaders and Venetians who all left their legacy on the island. The sites of ancient Cyprus include the Roman port of Salamis, the Persian palace of Vouni and Greek Soli. Medieval Cyprus is represented by Crusader castles, a Venetian castle picturesquely situated at the end of the harbour and the pretty ruins of the Abbey of Bellapais. An included excursion programme visits many of the main sites and optional excursions include a visit to the stunningly located Crusader castle of Kantara and the ancient sites of Vouni and Soli, visiting Guzelyurt en route.
Nostalgia Hotel: This traditional 2-star hotel, whilst simple, is wonderfully situated in the old quarter of Kyrenia, close to the picturesque harbour. Small pool, bar, restaurant and 28 air-conditioned rooms with private facilities (shower only) and TV. Onar Village: In the foothills above Kyrenia, this 3-star hotel offers tastefully furnished and decorated accommodation with private balconies. Restaurant, bar, outdoor and indoor pools, jacuzzi, Turkish bath, sauna, gym, and 64 air-conditioned rooms with private facilities, hairdryer and satellite TV.

Day 1 Fly direct from London Heathrow to Larnaca or from Manchester, via Turkey, to Ercan. Transfer to your chosen hotel for seven nights. Day 2 Full-day tour visiting the dramatically sited St. Hilarion Castle, romantic Bellapais Abbey and Kyrenia Castle situated on the harbour. Day 3 Full-day tour of ancient Salamis and Famagusta, visiting St. Nicholas' Cathedral, Othello's Tower and the old city walls, returning to Kyrenia via the famagusta cathedral monastery of St. Barnabas. Day 4 Half-day tour to the old city of Nicosia, visiting St. Sophia cathedral, the covered bazaar, a caravanserai and an Ottoman mansion. Day 5 Optional full-day tour visiting Guzelyurt and the historical sites of Soli and Vouni (lunch included) - £30 (Apr-Oct £34).
