Behind its glorious coast lie the remains of Roman cities, Islamic architecture and Berber villages. This stay at a coastal hotel near the well-located town of Sousse combines an introduction to Tunisia's Cathaginian, Roman and Arab heritage with time to relax or undertake independent exploration. The old town of Sousse displays traces of its history with its fortified Ribat and medina walls. Islamic heritage is best revealed in Kairouan, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Roman Heritage is explored in El Djem, the Empire's biggest colosseum, as well as the mosaics of the Bardo, Carthage and El Djem. A highlight of this arrangement is the remains of Carthage and a visit to the famous Bardo Museum in Tunis, pausing in the attractive village of Sidi Bou Said.

Day 1 Fly from London Gatwick to Tunis. Transfer to the Hotel El Hana Palace or the Mövenpick Resort Sousse for a seven-night stay. Day 2 Half-day tour inland to Kairouan, including the Great Mosque, the well-preserved medina and souks (due to flight timings departures from April to October will visit Kairouan on Day 5). Day 3 Introductory tour of Sousse, the Great Mosque and the Christian catacombs, with time at leisure in the medina. Afternoon lecture at the Ribat of Sousse. Day 4 Full-day tour to Tunis including the Bardo Museum, ancient Carthage and Sidi Bou Said. Days 5 & 6 At leisure. Day 7 Half-day tour to the Roman colosseum at El Djem. Day 8 Transfer to Tunis for the return flight to Gatwick.
