This fascinating two-centre option pairs the Hindu, Muslim and British legacies of Delhi with the Mughal capital of Agra. Itineraries will vary depending on whether you join preor post-cruise. However, each will explore highlights around Delhi: the work of Edwin Lutyens on a visit to India Gate and a drive down the stately Rajpath ceremonial avenue to the Presidential House. The red sandstone Humayuns Tomb and the lofty Qutab Minar tower are among the other highlights. In Agra, youll contrast the breathtaking elegance of the Taj Mahal on visits at dawn and dusk. Youll also explore 16th-century Agra Fort on the River Yamuna and tour Fatehpur Sikri, the City of Victory left deserted after just 14 years of occupation.

After a tour of Mumbai that takes in highlights such as Victoria Terminus (inspired by Londons St. Pancras) and the laundry rituals of Dhobi Ghats, youll fly to the fabled city of Agra. The evening is yours to explore the narrow bustling streets rich with aromatic spices. The next day, the deserted city of Fatehpur Sikri provides an intriguing snapshot of what life was like 500 years ago, its many halls, palaces and mosques all perfectly preserved. Also features is Emperor Akbars giant Buland Darwaza triumphal arch. After lunch, youll explore Agra Fort, the rustycoloured sandstone citadel built during the same period. Centrepiece is the Pearl Mosque with its bulbous domes. Later, a visit to the peerless Taj Mahal sees the sun set over Mumtaz Mahals exquisite mausoleum, built by 20,000 labourers over a period of 22 years. A return visit early on the third day looks at its white marbled walls and turrets in a new light, before breakfast and a return flight to Mumbai and your onward journey.
