Andrea's Argentina!
Tangos, trekking and timeless
Argentina
Argentina belongs at the top of everyone's list of Latin American destinations. This vast South American republic offers a stunning range of dramatic landscapes, with a growing number of white-knuckle adventure sports. And if you're on a budget, Argentina is a bargain.
ANDREA TODD TEACHING VOLUNTEER
My project is to teach English to the guides in the Iguazú National Park. The Iguazú drops water 70 meters in a two-mile curve at 1,500 cubic meters per second. It is a WOW factor in the biggest sense of the word! Iguazú is the second National Park in Argentina. Young Argentines work in the shops, cafés and information centres. There are nearly 3,000 visitors each day from all over the world. Many have no Spanish so English is a must for all these outlets. My day is spent `chatting' to everyone from the train driver to the ice-cream seller, but mainly the main information guides. We also involve ourselves with the individual tourists and call "welcome" to all the passers-by in at least six languages as we guess their origins! Our journey home, a half hour, is a multilingual experience! The best English is learnt and practised while drinking mate (a strong herbal tea that the Guaraní people from this area say has amazing properties) and, of course, on the bus home. And my Spanish? Making great strides and causing many laughs with the chicas!!!

Why Argentina needs you
Brimming with culture and natural diversity, Argentina also has extreme poverty, especially after the crash of its financial and economic system. An array of volunteer projects, both in Buenos Aires and culturally-rich provinces to the north, will allow you to give a helping hand, while enjoying many memorable experiences.
