The Americas > Ecuador Conservation work on the Galapagos Islands Conserve ecosystems and restore the purity of natural plant species on San Cristóbal. The aim of this fascinating biological station is to help preserve the natural habitat of the island and to introduce new organic farming methods. Depending on the station's needs, your conservation work may include planting new crops, assisting in light building activities or helping to maintain the trails around the island. Local staff may lead you on hikes to nearby lagoons, forests, beaches and local villages to explain the ecological problems facing the Galapagos Islands. Amazon rainforest preservation in Ecuador Live and work in the heart of Ecuador's Amazon rainforests. By doing so, you will be experiencing one of the most biologically diverse ecosystems on Earth, where the Amazon meets the foothills of the Andes. You will work with a well-established foundation which owns and manages biological research stations in nine critical and diverse eco-systems throughout the country. You could be involved in any number of activities, such as reforestation, research, community development and various conservation projects which help to protect over 2,000 hectares of tropical forest. The Experience The Galapagos Islands are incredible and it was fascinating being here you know you're in a unique place when you get used to the sight of Giant Tortoises!
