The Americas > Ecuador Animal rehabilitation in rural Ecuador Animal lovers can gain hands-on experience at the Santa Martha sanctuary in Tambillo, one hour south of the beautiful colonial city of Quito. Working with animals rescued from traffickers, the project's main aim is to help the animals get back to their natural habitat as soon as possible. You could be involved in feeding, clearing the animal enclosures, animal rescue and release. Be sure to bring bags of commitment and a willingness to help with basic duties in order to get the most out of this amazing experience. Animal wildlife rescue in coastal Guayaquil, Ecuador Perfect for volunteers with a love of animals. Based at an animal rescue centre on the coast, you'll be working with a wide range of endangered species. Bring lots of enthusiasm and roll up your sleeves to assist with feeding, cleaning and repairing animal enclosures, assisting in wildlife healthcare, maintaining the animal behaviour and bird-sighting databases, and assisting botanists with plant identification in the mangroves and tropical forests. You may also find yourself assisting in captive breeding programmes for crocodiles, spider monkeys and macaws. The Experience I had a brilliant time here and in Ecuador as a whole. The sanctuary had a range of animals including some lions that had been rescued from a circus. I was able to handle the lion cubs and got up close and personal with some tarantulas not for the faint-hearted! Brendan Kearney Ideas for time off 1.
