Africa > Kenya Community work with children in Mombasa (i-to-i TEFL certification included) If you're resilient, patient and optimistic, a project in Mombasa needs your support helping vulnerable children in Kenya's second largest city. Mombasa is home to more than 30,000 street children and many more youngsters who have been orphaned by HIV/AIDS. By volunteering at a local rescue centre, you could reach out to some of these vulnerable children and help put their lives back on track. These valuable projects aim to rescue, rehabilitate and educate street children and help reunite them with relatives. Any skills that you have in sports, music, drama, art or fundraising will be greatly appreciated. We include i-to-i TEFL certification to give you a head start. If you have PE experience then you may be able to get involved with physical activities as part of detoxification and rehabilitation programmes for children fighting drug addiction. While at times these projects may be challenging, you can be sure your hard work will be worthwhile. You will need to be flexible and have the initiative and enthusiasm to face the many hurdles and challenges that you will inevitably encounter within this full and varied role. Above all, a love of children and commitment to the project must shine through. The Experience The first few weeks here in Mombasa have been amazing and I'm loving every minute of it, from the food to the climate, the culture to the project.
